ADOPTED RESOLUTION 10-71

To request the RI Board to consider implementing a new program for Rotary Peace Communities

WHEREAS, the Object of Rotary calls upon Rotarians to promote world understanding, goodwill and peace, and

WHEREAS, historically world peace has been an important part of RI programs and initiatives, and

WHEREAS, Peace Communities have become an increasingly important vehicle by which Rotary is manifesting a visible declaration of goodwill and peace at the community level undertaken as a Rotary Community Service Project, and

WHEREAS, over 70 Rotary Peace Communities have been developed and declared by various Rotary clubs and districts throughout the world, and

WHEREAS, a group of dedicated Rotarian leaders has recently coordinated four Peace Summits, including the development of a Rotary Peace Community program and Website, and

WHEREAS, a policy framework is desired for a Rotary Peace Community program to continue and have consistent recognition worldwide

IT IS RESOLVED by Rotary International that the Board of Directors of Rotary International consider recognizing and implementing a new Rotary program fostering Rotary Peace Communities and acknowledging existing declared Rotary Peace Communities.

IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED by Rotary International that the Board of Directors of Rotary International consider requesting that future RI presidents emphasize the Object of Rotary by including the Rotary Peace Community program within their emphasis each year.
